First Impressions are Everything

Getting off on the right foot with your customers can not only improve their restaurant experience, but also your tips. Servers who introduce themselves by name and make eye contact with each person at the table will make their guests feel immediately welcome. Dining out is about more than just food - it’s an experience. So help make that experience an awesome one from the moment they sit down. With the combination of a personal introduction, a cheery disposition and a clean and professional appearance, customers are more inclined to leave a higher tip.

 

 

Give a Little, Get a Little

As a server, another way to increase your chances of receiving a generous tip is to create reciprocity with your customers. Go the extra mile for your customers; whether it’s surprising them with a complimentary dessert or a glass of bubbly to celebrate a special occasion - your customers won’t forget your generosity. Something as simple as leaving a note on your customer’s check or sending them off with mints or candies can make you the apple of your customer’s eye.

 

 

Repeat After Me

It’s not rare for a customer's order to get lost or mistaken throughout the hustle and bustle of your shift. Let your customers know you’re all ears by repeating their orders back to them; not only does this show you were listening, but they’ll be able to sit back and relax knowing that their going to get exactly what they asked for. Chances are, you’ll be rewarded with a generous tip for ensuring your customer’s experience is top-notch.

 

 

Strive for Superior Service

As a server, it’s important to roll out the red carpet for your customers. Don’t forget the small things; whether it’s refilling an empty drink glass or simply observing body language to see if they need anything, checking on your customers regularly shows you care about their dining experience. If your customer’s visit goes off without a hitch, they’ll be more likely to leave a higher tip!
